This session will provide an update on developments in regulations, guidelines and technology trends regarding mould in buildings. KEEPING WATER OUT OF YOUR BUILDING

11:00 am to 12 noon
How to Deal With Water – The Silent Enemy of Buildings
1 BOMA Credit

Storm water is a hot battleground of conflicting objectives for builders and building owners. Water is a major cause of much building deterioration and its infiltration into buildings is a top complaint on any list. From a building standpoint diversion of water away from the building elements as quickly as possible is the ideal approach. Conflicting with this ideal are the limits of municipal infrastructures to deal with the water volumes and the current wave of ‘Green’ water conservation initiatives in which storm water is stored and utilized onsite for irrigation or service uses like flushing toilets. This session will outline some methods of achieving harmony between the conflicting objectives, providing some insight into ways of both keeping the water out of a building and providing for its storage or control on the site.
